MATHESON, Samuel

Posted: March 19th, 2024

SAMUEL MATHESON 1969 – 2024 It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that the Matheson family announce the passing of Samuel Drummond Matheson. Sam passed peacefully in Castries, Saint Lucia on February 29th, 2024. His beloved sister, Megan Diana Matheson, and his fiancé, Minole Jasani were by his side.
Sam was born on December 9, 1969, in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was the first-born child of Samuel Osgoode Matheson and Margaret Marie Matheson (nee Drummond), as well as the older brother of Megan.
Sam enjoyed a happy childhood. After completing high school, Sam opted to remain in his hometown in order to obtain his undergraduate degree at The University of Lethbridge. He then chose to further his education and pursued a Master’s Degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Upon completion of his education, Sam took a position with Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, where he remained until his passing.
Music was Sam’s greatest passion. Whether it was playing guitar, listening to a wide variety of genres (especially Heavy Metal), watching rockumentaries, or even reading about the subject, music always brought joy to his heart. He also found great pleasure in all kinds of movies, old and new.
Those who were fortunate enough to know this great soul, knew what a wonderful human being he was. Despite his humility, Sam was kind, generous, sweet, funny, intelligent, and always at the ready to entertain those close to him in ways only Sam could.
Sam will always be remembered with love.
All are invited to an Internment that will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 1210 SCENIC DRIVE SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta.

One Condolence for “MATHESON, Samuel”

  1. Jonathan Facchin says:

My condolences to the loss of Sam.
I recently came into contact with a person in Cochrane named Rob Jenner. He has been selling off a collection of vinyl that I believe to be Sam’s. I don’t know Sam personally but through meeting Rob I have discovered what I believe to be some of his noise music works. Now if this doesn’t sound like the same Sam Matheson you can ignore this message. Sam was making noise under the moniker of Tension Hook and there are a lot of artists aware of his work and were curious about him. As am I. He was in contact with some of the biggest and important names in the early scene.
So long story short I’m trying to find out about Sam and trying to find some of the early works to maybe put together some kind of zine/ discography release showcasing his work and life. It’s important to me that some of these guys get the coverage they deserve because quite frankly he helped pave the way for people like me.
Thank you for your time and any info you can provide. And if I’m barking up the wrong tree or this isn’t something of interest no worries! Just figured I try any possible lead!
