DEMETER, Mathew “Mike”
Posted: April 15th, 2025 MATHEW (MIKE) JOSEPH DEMETER 1934 – 2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Mathew (Mike) Joseph Demeter at Chinook Regional Hospital on April 13, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
He is survived by his children Tracy of Edmonton and Shelley of Lloydminster; nieces Patricia (Bev) Bayer; Colleen Fisher, Kathy Fisher, Donna Fisher; nephews Larry Kostyal; Parry (Viault) Olesen, Gregory Fisher, Robert Fisher Jr., as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Mike was born on June 2nd, 1934, in Raymond, Alberta. The family then moved to Picture Butte where Mike received his schooling. Mike began his career working at the Bank of Nova Scotia. While working in Innisfail, he met Ivy Fisher. The two were married on March 2, 1957. They were blessed with three beautiful daughters Valerie (dec.), Tracy and Shelley. Mike and Ivy lived in Melfort, Saskatchewan for many years where he worked for the bank, was part owner of a car dealership, then opened his own investment company. Mike was an avid sports enthusiast, during school, he participated in track and field, and baseball. In Melfort, he played Goal for old timer’s hockey teams earning the nickname “The Cat”. He also thoroughly enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Mike was predeceased by his daughter Valerie Demeter; parents Matyas and Kathleen Demeter; sister Kathleen Kostyal; brother-in-law Mike Kostyal; and nephew Kenneth Fisher.
Mike will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703-13 St N, Lethbridge, Alberta, on April 17, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held at Archmount Cemetery.
