STOLTENBERG, Trevor

IN LOVING MEMORY OF TREVOR JAMES STOLTENBERG 1986 ~ 2025 It is with broken hearts and the deepest sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Trevor James Stoltenberg, on Sept. 2, 2025 at Strathmore, AB, at the young age of 39.
Trevor was born in Lethbridge, AB, on May 27, 1986, with a sensitive heart and a loving, tender soul. From a young age, Trevor followed his own path. He found his strengths and stayed true to himself, never losing his passion or curiosity for life. Trevor connected strongly with nature, children and animals, but it was his precious family of cats who he nurtured and gave of himself unconditionally that brought him his greatest joy.
Trevor will be lovingly remembered for his compassion, humor, optimism and creativity. Trevor empathized with those less fortunate and whenever possible, gave of himself and his knowledge – whether sharing stories of similar struggles or offering somwhere to sleep. Trevor’s dreams were simple – to have his own family, open a cat sanctuary and to do his part to make the world kinder and safer for all. Very humble and generous with anything he had, Trevor could have let his difficult circumstances get him down, but his heart was always in the right place. Fiercely independent and proud, he began every day with that big smile and a new plan.
After years of studying Islam, learning Arabic and practising what he learned, Trevor embraced Islam in 2021. Trevor’s Muslim name, Abu Hurairah (Father of Kittens), suited him perfectly and always brought a smile to his face when he introduced himself. Trevor’s faith gave him solace, direction and joy, and he followed it with sincerity and commitment.
Trevor treasured time spent with family and often regretted the miles that separated us. He was truly one-of-a-kind and will be missed beyond measure. We feel blessed and take comfort that our last day with him was filled with love, laughter, hugs and penguins. His courage, strength and kindness inspire us daily.
Trevor will be deeply missed and forever loved by his mom Debra (Erwin) along with his brothers Jason (Phoy), Adam & Jesse; his Buchinski relatives – Uncles and Aunties: Ken (Pamela), Dave (Janis), Larry, Sherry (Len), Colleen, Susan & Dan and their families; his father Dirk (Maryjane), his nephew Maverick, and his fur buddy Benton. Trevor was predeceased by his grandparents Henry & Ingrid Buchinski and Chris & Lisa Stoltenberg.
Prayers for Trevor were held at The Calgary Islamic Centre, SW Mosque on Friday, Sept 5, 2025 and led by Imam Sheikh Mohamed Hassan, followed by burial at The Calgary Muslim Cemetery in Cochrane, AB. Our family is grateful to the Islamic community for their compassion, guidance, friendship, generosity and prayers. They helped our family honour Trevor the way he would have wished. Shukran.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter or rescue society.

  2. Ashleigh says:

I am so sorry to hear of Trevors passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Trevor at my store. Although it was Elvis a beautiful Siamese cat that caught his attention. Trevor stopped almost everyday to come bring a treat or just show some love to Elvis. I always enjoyed our conversations because it is rare these days to meet such a kind soft spoken gentleman. I feel very blessed that our paths got to cross even if it was just a short while. My heart goes out to his family as this is very hard loss.

  3. Zak says:

May Allah have mercy on his soul, may his grave be a garden of the gardens of Jannah and may Allah grant him the highest abode in Jannah.

    Dear Trevor’s ( Abu Hurairah’s) family

Although I did not know your son personally, I feel a deep sense of sorrow at his passing. As a fellow Muslim, I see him as a brother in faith, and I wanted to reach out with heartfelt condolences.

Your son was part of a community that mourns him and prays for his peace. In Islam, we ask Allah to forgive him, envelop him in mercy, and grant him a place in Jannah (Paradise).

May you find comfort in the love that surrounds you, and may the memory of your son continue to inspire kindness and unity. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

    To Trevors family,

I am sending you love and prayers of peace. I recently discovered his passing. I’m his good friend from Windsor. We spent alot of time together when be was here and I gave him his first cat Beast. He took such good care of that kitty and loved him so much. I already missed his smile and laughter and his adventures..the thought that I’ll never see him here on earth again is very sad. I was really counting on his return one day. This is a reminder that life is so short and that every tomorrow is a gift. I’ll miss Trevor… he called me Fred 🤣

I know I’ll see him again when we meet up in heaven. Love you buddy, your forever Fred ❤️
