KATRINA RUFF KATRINA RUFF passed away in Lethbridge on March 14, 2026 at the age of 38 years. She was born on December 13, 1987 in Richmond, B.C. Katrina was the beloved daughter of Blair and Laurie Ruff and was predeceased by her grandparents Walter and Florence Ruff and Bill and June Musgrove.
Katrina attended Ecole St. Mary’s school and Gilbert Patterson Jr. High – French Immersion Programs, and Winston Churchill High School International Baccalaureate program. Katrina graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Science (Geography -GIC) in 2011. She was also a Flautist in the U of L Conservatory Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
Katrina’s legacy was deeply rooted in volunteerism at a young age: She volunteered at Ecole St. Mary’s, Lethbridge Public Library (Ready, Set, Read), Girl Guides, Helen Schuler Coulee Centre, Ped Pals (Hospital), Moonlight Run, Project Paintbrush and Habitat for Humanity. At age 15, she was awarded the Volunteer Lethbridge Jr. High Leaders of Tomorrow Volunteer Award.
After graduating from the U of L with a B.Sc. in 2011, Katrina started work at Blackbridge Geomatics in Lethbridge, now called “Planet”. We were grateful that she did not have to leave Lethbridge to work in her field. Her supervisors thought she was highly motivated, enthusiastic, and hard working. She was very proud to be able to buy her first house soon after starting work there.
Before and during her work at Blackbridge Geomatics, Katrina worked part-time at Pennington’s, where many of her co-workers became close friends, with whom she continued to socialize with, even after leaving in 2024. Katrina loved going out with her friends for pot-luck dinners, movies & board games. She also played online games with an international gaming group. Katrina loved playing the flute and piano and spending time with her family on Sunday’s, to play games, watch our favorite TV shows together and share a meal or two. Katrina enjoyed playing in the Marathon Bridge League with her dad and attending a Star Trek Convention and a Penn and Teller show with us one summer.
Katrina sponsored artists, especially at local craft fairs. Katrina’s friends talk about her kindness, support, sense of humour and adventure. They all say she was an amazing friend and person. Katrina also enjoyed writing poetry and stories, reading and listening to music.
Katrina, we love you and are very proud of you. We wish we could continue to talk, hug and laugh with you and will miss you very much. We think and know that you were a very precious gift to both family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH – Knights of Columbus Basement Hall, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 1:30 P.M. A reception follows at the hall.
