NORTON, Clair

Posted: May 9th, 2026

NORTON Clair Harker Norton was born on December 29, 1935, in Lethbridge and grew up nearby in Magrath. He passed away peacefully at home from chronic renal failure, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, hard work, and kindness.
Clair graduated from the University of Alberta as a Medical Physician in 1960. He married Gail Louise Walker, the love of his life, on December 9, 1961, in Edmonton, and they were sealed for eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple three days later on December 12, 1961.
For 43 years, Clair faithfully served the communities of Raymond and Magrath as a physician. He deeply loved his patients, and caring for them was one of the greatest joys and purposes of his life. His compassion, dedication, and steady presence touched countless lives.
Outside of medicine, Clair found great joy in his family, gardening, flowers, farming, and raising animals. He especially loved his Percheron and Quarter horses, chickens, and pigeons. He also had a lifelong love of trees and woodworking and spent countless hours in his woodshop creating beautiful furniture, bowls, and other works of art on his lathe – a passion he continued almost daily until just two weeks before his passing.
Clair deeply loved his family and sought to care for them by setting a good example through the way he lived his life.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Clair lived a life centered on faith, service, and compassion for others.
He was predeceased by his parents, Blaine and Phoebe Norton; his beloved wife, Gail; and his children, Kent Norton and Nancy Norton.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Denise (Devon) Anderson of Salem, Utah, and Cathy (Brent) Cahoon of Cardston, Alberta; his grandchildren Mark (Monica) Broadhead, Amy Broadhead, Jill Broadhead, David (Danyka) Broadhead, Naomi (Aaron) Moore, Ashley (Julio) Solano, Holly Cahoon, and Megan Cahoon; and nine great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Clair was deeply grateful for the many kind friends and neighbors who blessed his life with their loving support and friendship over the years.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday May 15, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, MAGRATH STAKE CENTRE, 21 East 1 Ave S.
Friends are welcome to meet with the family on Thursday May 14, 2026 from 7:00 to 8:00pm at the MAGRATH STAKE CENTRE, and Friday May 15, 2026 from 12:00 to 12:45pm also at the church in Magrath.
