KUSALIK Edward Floyd Kusalik, 76, of Daysland, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2026, leaving behind a life rich in family, service and community.
Born in Chatham, Ontario on May 3rd, 1949, Edward was raised on the family farm near McKay’s Corners, where crops – especially tobacco – were grown. Edward developed a strong work ethic early in life. He graduated from high school in 1967 and went on to earn a diploma in Communication Electronics from Devry Institute of Technology.
Edward met the love of his life, Joanne, and they were married in 1971. Together they built a life centered on family, raising three children: Tanya, Jody and David. In 1980, the family moved to Alberta, eventually settling in Coaldale where they spent nearly 30 years. He and Joanne then moved to Daysland in 2009 after retiring from a long career with the City of Lethbridge.
A man deeply rooted in his faith and community, Edward was an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1981, obtaining the highest rank, the prestigious Fourth Degree. He gave generously of his time, volunteering with the Camrose Heritage Museum and serving his community through 10 years on Daysland Town Council, including four years as Mayor.
Edward had many passions throughout his life. In his early years, he enjoyed fishing and trapping. He later found joy in gardening and was well known for delicious pickles he lovingly canned and shared with family and friends. He also had a lifelong passion for shortwave radio, achieving over 250 radio verifications throughout the years. This achievement was noted by radio hobby and radio clubs, earning him the distinction of “Numero Uno” in Canada.
He will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering support and humour. Known for his playful shenanigans, his countless stories and his love for his first car, a high performance 1968 Comet 428 with big block cobra jet engine, that earned him the nickname “Fast Eddy”.
Edward is lovingly remembered by his children, Tanya Marie of Edmonton, Jody Lynn and Richard Schultz of Spruce Grove and David Michael of Lethbridge; He is also survived by his sister Helen Bruneel of Chatham and his sister-in-law Mary Kusalik of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His grandchildren -his greatest pride and joy- Tyler, Jordyn, Kaylie Hawryluk, Rylee and Taylor Kusalik, will forever cherish his unconditional love, active presence and legacy sharing.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Joanne (Holek); his parents Steve and Stephanie Kusalik; his brothers, Joseph Kusalik and John Kusalik, and John’s wife Mary; and his brother-in-law Roger Bruneel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 16th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Prairies Catholic Church, Daysland, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Edward’s life was a testament to devotion – to his family, his faith and his community. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
