ERICKSON, Matilda
Posted: May 20th, 2026 ERICKSON March 14, 1927 – May 16, 2026 MATILDA JULIA ERICKSON, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Frederick Erickson, and cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend, passed away peacefully at the Fairmont Extendicare, on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the age of 99 years.
Born on March 14, 1927, in Cedoux Saskatchewan, Matilda lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. On July 12,1951, she married the love of her life Fred Erickson, beginning a partnership built on family, hard work, and devotion. Together they moved to Alberta in 1957, where Matilda devoted many years to shaping young minds as a respected school teacher.
Matilda was a loving and proud mother to Rose Parker and her husband Gerry Parker, Les Erickson, and Lorne Erickson and his wife Glenna Erickson. She cherished her role as grandmother to Beverly (James), Natalie (Greg), Christopher (Misty), Matthew, Andrew, Daniel (Anna), Bradley (Melanie) and Kaitlyn. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride.
Matilda is survived by her brother, Florian “Tony” Tokarz. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Erickson; her oldest son, Stephen Erickson; parents, Anthony and Victoria Tokarz; her sisters, Alfreda Pass and Claudette Beltramani; and their husbands.
Matilda retired from teaching in 1982 after a cherished career as a Grade 2 teacher at Our Lady of Assumption School. She was admired for her patience, compassion, and dedication to her students. Following her retirement, Matilda dedicated countless hours, volunteering at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital craft club.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle guidance, and unwavering support for those she loved. Her dedication to education, family, and community left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Matilda’s memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH – 2405 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 10:00am with Father Santiago Torres celebrating. Following the Memorial Mass, Matilda will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Frederick at Mountain View Cemetery.
