SOMMERFELDT, Annie
Posted: May 23rd, 2026 ANNIE VICTORIA KOSKEWICH SOMMERFELDT Annie Victoria (Vickie) Koskewich Sommerfeldt, beloved wife of the late Darrel Sommerfeldt, passed away in Cardston, Alberta, on May 20, 2026, at the age of 94 years.
Vickie was born to John and Lena Koskewich on January 28, 1932, in Lethbridge, Alberta. She had 2 older brothers, Alex and George. Vickie’s family had a small farm in Del Bonita, where she grew up, and they worked the land together. Vickie attended school at Shank’s Lake and later finished high school in Del Bonita. After graduating, she took a business and secretarial course at Garbutt Business School in Lethbridge.
In 1948, she met Darrel Sommerfeldt as he was attempting to sell a tractor to her father, John. This began their courtship, and they were later married on November 24th, 1951. Together, they lived in Del Bonita, where they ran the John Deere dealership, which they called Darrel’s Shop and Farm Equipment.
After 8 years of marriage, Dean Dan Sommerfeldt, the only child of Vickie and Darrel, was born in Magrath on April 14, 1959. As a family, they were very connected to the Del Bonita community, where they taught square dancing, were members of and helped run many clubs and hosted parties.
In 1968, Vickie, Darrel and Dean moved to Cardston. They, along with Karl Wilde, started the John Deere dealership, K & D Implements. While Darrel was running and managing the shop, Vickie used her business and secretarial degree to handle all the accounting and management duties at the Cardston Clinic until she retired in October of 1996. On her days off, she spent all her time with Darrel at the store, helping out by keeping the books.
Vickie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized on March 9, 1997, at age 65. She was later sealed in the temple for time and all eternity to Darrel and Dean on March 20, 1998. She held many callings but always enjoyed working in the church library and the clothing desk in the temple.
Some of her pastimes included crocheting, curling, golfing, pitching in fast pitch, playing crib, camping, fishing, travelling and, of course, following Dean, her grandkids and great-grandkids around to all of their events.
Vickie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her only son, Dean (Brenda) Sommerfeldt and their 3 children. Judy Sommerfeldt, Karen (Corey) Rowe and Todd (Alyssa) Sommerfeldt. As well as 7 great-grandchildren, Madison, Courtney, Maelle, and Lacey Rowe, Peyton, Corbin and Harper Sommerfeldt.
She is predeceased by her spouse, Darrel Sommerfeldt; her parents, John and Lena Koskewich; brothers, Alex (Florence) and George (Verna); and great-granddaughter, Avery Sommerfeldt.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston West Stake Centre. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.
