Mrs. Erna Strothmann of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Heinz Strothmann, passed away on Thursday, September 13th, 2012 at the age of 80 years. Erna leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Heinz (Judy), Dave (Sherry) and Erwin, all of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Colleen (Rick) Bosch and their children, Tianna, Brayden, and Dariyne, Michael Strothmann and his children, Savannah, Maddex, and Myan, and Kattrina Strothmann; three sisters, Erma Kallis of Medicine Hat, Inga Dorn of Germany, and Elsie Duke of Medicine Hat; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Hanelt; her very special friend, Ingrid Herrmann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Heinz, Erna was predeceased by her parents, Adolf and Albertine Hanelt; one brother, Erich Hanelt; one sister, Marlis (John) Seitz; and three brothers-in-law, Reinhardt Kallis, Heinz Dorn, and Gus Duke. Erna was born in Poland on March 25th, 1932 and lived in Germany from 1945 to 1957. She married Heinz Strothmann on December 12th, 1952 and they immigrated to Canada in 1957. They settled in the Weyburn, Saskatchewan area before moving to Medicine Hat in 1960. Erna worked at the City Bakery, the Medical Arts Clinic, and Deli City, where she was part-time owner, until retiring in 1995. Her hobbies included gardening and knitting. Erna will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Graveside Service will be held in HILLSIDE CEMETERY, 10th Avenue & Gershaw Drive SW, on Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Julianna Wehrfritz- Hanson officiating. Memorial gifts in Erna’s memory may be made to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6, or to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 758 – 8th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1M5.
