Mr. Alfred (Alf) Kelm, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Kelm of Medicine Hat,  passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at the age of 82 years.  Along with his loving wife, Betty, Alf leaves to cherish his memory three children and their families:  son, Brian (Kathy) Kelm of Calgary and their family, Mark Kelm, Chris Zurak and Rick Zurak;  son, Blaine (Sabrina) Kelm of Medicine Hat and their children, Dennie and Annette Kelm;  daughter, Lori (Mark) Irvine of Calgary and their daughter, Meg Irvine;  one sister, Hulda Whyte as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Amalia Kelm;  one brother, William as well as two sisters, Emma and Lydia.  Alf was born on October 6, 1929 in Eatonia, Saskatchewan.  His father passed away at a young age and the family moved to Oliver, B.C. where he worked in the mines and orchards for a short time before moving back to Eatonia. This is where he met his future wife, Betty and they were married on January 8, 1954. They stayed in Eatonia for a few more years before moving to Medicine Hat in 1957, taking on a position with Dominion Glass in Redcliff.  In 1969, they moved to Calgary where he worked at the Glenbow Museum.  In 1973, they moved back to Medicine Hat, making it their home.  He worked for the City of Medicine Hat until his retirement at the age of 63 years.  Alf loved to go hunting with his boys and fishing with all his family.  He was a good man and was respected by all those who knew him.  Alf lived a good, full life, enjoying each day to the fullest while brightening the day of all those around him!  Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, September 21, 2012, between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.  Visitation will also be offered starting one hour prior to the Celebration of Alf’s life which will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating.  Interment will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery.  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)  If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Alf’s name may be made directly to the Margery E.
