Mr. Stanley “Stan” Sharpe of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Emilie Sharpe, passed away on Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 at the age of 90 years. Stan leaves to cherish his memory his son, Darrel Sharpe of Acadia Valley; his two sisters, Gladys Attenbury and Joan Pomfrett and their families, all of England. Stan was predeceased by his wife, Emilie; his parents, Albert and Elsie Sharpe of England; as well as Emilie’s brothers and sisters. Stan was born on June 11th, 1922 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England. At the age of 19, he joined the Royal Air Force and was sent to the RAF Training Base at Medicine Hat a year later. While in training, he met his future wife, Emilie Schmidt, and they were married in Medicine Hat on February 14th, 1944. Stan was transferred back to England where he and his bride resided from 1944 to 1947. In January of 1948, they returned to Canada and took up residence in Medicine Hat. Stan was employed at the Maple Leaf Mills from 1948 to 1955 and then worked at the Gas City Planning Mills until 1960 when he became employed by the Canadian Post Office. He worked at the Post Office until his retirement in 1987. Stan enjoyed spending time with his family, with friends at the Legion, golfing, camping and gardening. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Thursday from 12:00 to 12:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Julianna Wehrfritz- Hanson officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Stan’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #102, 73 – 7th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2, or to the Royal Canadian Legion, 702 – 2 Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0E1.
