ANHORN – Henry

July 10, 1918 – October 20, 2012 Henry Anhorn passed away peacefully on October 20, 2012 at the tender age of 94 years.

Dad was born July 10, 1918 on his parent’s farm west of Maple Creek, SK to Lydia and Henry Anhorn. He was raised by his step-mother Selena (Jans) after his birth mother died when he was 5 years old. He spent his youth on the family farm before moving to Medicine Hat where he met and married the love of his life Emma Hauck on May 22, 1943. The Anhorn family moved to Forest Lawn, east of Calgary in 1958 and then to their Capitol Hill home in 1963 where Dad lived until 2010. Henry joined the CPR in Medicine Hat in 1941 and retired from the CPR Alyth Shop as a machinist in 1979. During his retirement years Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling throughout the US and Canada firstly in a trailer and then their trusty RV. Dad was persuaded by Mom to even fly to Europe and to Hawaii. Dad enjoyed being the family “repair man” and became an avid fisherman and gardener. Dad took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren. Dad is survived by his 4 children, 8 grand children and 5 great grand children. Judy Wiber (Steve Gruzman), Jim Anhorn (Patricia Walberg-Anhorn), Gary Anhorn (Nancy), Gail Anhorn (John Moskaluk), devoted grand children Marnie Scheirick (Paul) and great granddaughters Maddison and Montana; Candice Hildebrand (Jason) and great grandson Devon and great granddaughter Amber; Jennifer Stubbings (Matt) and great grandson Nolan; Chelsea and Ryan Anhorn; Jeremy and Evan Moskaluk. Henry is also survived by his sisters Frieda Lentz, Emily (Henry Bauer), and Ann (Don Gould) and sister-in-law Marlene Anhorn, plus many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his dear wife Emma (March 11, 2003) and grandson Tyler Moskaluk (March 16, 2003),as well as sisters Olga (Bill Munday), Lydia (Jack Geiger), Elsie (Edward Lowenberger) Adeline (Gottlieb Lentz), brother-in-law Jack Lentz, brother Joseph Anhorn, Edward and Annie Rose in infancy. Special thanks to Dr. Ken Cody and Dr. Todd Anderson and their staff plus the doctors and nurses on Unit 81 and 72 at Foothills Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1903 – 19 Avenue NW on Friday October 26 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Taylor presiding.
