October 13, 1964 ~ October 29, 2012

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nellie Hallett (nee Aasman).  She is survived by her daughter, Chantel Hallett (Mike Timchuk)  and beautiful granddaughter, Brooklyn Jacqueline;  a son, Josh Hallett (Kaylene Simpson) and their father, Donald Hallett.  Nellie is also survived by her mother, Jackie Aasman;  brother, Hank Aasman;  sister, Pat (John) Carpenter and their children, Kristin (David) Schlemko and their daughter, Ava;  Chelbey Carpenter;  sister-in-law, Jaylene Aasman and her children, Ryan and Jayna;  brother, Cal (Cheryl) and their children, Logan and Kayleigh.  She was predeceased by her father, James and brothers Tony and Randy.  Nellie was born in Medicine Hat on October 13, 1964, to proud parents, James and Jackie who were thrilled to finally have a baby girl after having three sons.  Her sister Pat was born a year later and the two sisters were inseparable from that day forward.  Nel’s always apparent maternal instincts were first revealed at the age of six when baby brother Cal arrived.  Nellie attended Riverside School, Crescent Heights High School and graduated from Medicine Hat High School in 1982.  She acquired many life long friendships through her jobs at Canadian Tire, Winners and Superstore.  Nellie embraced the roles of mother (hockey mom especially), sister, daughter, auntie and friend but absolutely cherished becoming a grandma most of all when precious Brooklyn was born in May.  Nellie loved the ‘family gatherings’ including birthdays, Christmas dinners and the annual get-together at Echo Dale.  Regardless of the occasion, Nellie loved being with the entire family.  Some of her favorite things included reality TV shows, shopping trips and of course, a large, black, Tim Horton’s coffee!  Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, love and support.  A Celebration of Nellie’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating.  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)  As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to AJ’s Loan Cupboard, P.O. Box 45006, McKenzie Postal Outlet, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 7H3, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 Crestwood Square One, 1865 Dunmore Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8.  Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W.   Medicine Hat, Alberta   T1A 4V4  Phone 403-527-6455
