FRANK WALDEMAR FRIESEN 1929 – 2012 LENORA RUTH FRIESEN 1930 – 2012

Posted: November 15th, 2012

Frank and Ruth Friesen died together in an accident on November 10th, 2012. Left to cherish their memory are: their three children – Carol (Dan) Ohlmann, Stan Friesen and Perry (Lynda) Friesen; grandchildren – Andrew & Connie Ohlmann, James & Chelsea Ohlmann, Janessa, Michelle, Sarah, Katelyn & Rayanne Friesen; great grandchildren – Troy & Brynn Ohlmann; and many friends and relatives.

Frank and Ruth were both born in Main Centre, Saskatchewan. They grew up on farms near Main Centre where they went to school and were married on August 19th, 1951. Frank was a school teacher in Sandy Point, Hilda and Medicine Hat. He was the math department head at Crescent Heights High School before he retired in 1983. Altogether, he taught from 1947 – 1983. In his retirement, he sold real estate, World Book and the occasional vehicle; but his real passions were golfing, curling, bowling and other sports. He remained active his whole life. He also served faithfully at Temple Baptist Church in a variety of capacities including: moderator, adult Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Ruth was a psychiatric nurse before she was married. After marriage, she was a dedicated homemaker and church volunteer. She led the choir at Temple Baptist for many years. She taught Pioneer Girls, and was affectionately known as Bluebird. She served as a preschool Sunday school teacher until she was 80 years old. She encouraged the musical gifts in others by giving young singers a place to start and accompanying many musical groups. She helped plan and lead services at the Haven of Rest. Ruth was also a well known local artist and member of the Hat Art Club. She loved to paint and won awards for her artwork, serving as the current chair of the Strathcona Art Studio. Her art brought her joy and it was shared by numerous friends and relatives. Frank and Ruth often shared their gift of hospitality. Their home was always open to others, and their generosity combined with Ruth’s amazing cooking and baking skills created an unforgettable atmosphere of fellowship, laughter and love. The memories shared there will never be forgotten. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so on Friday at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. An Interment Service will be held on Saturday, November 17th, 2012 at HILLSIDE CEMETERY at 10:00 a.m. for family and friends.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 17th, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH, 606 – 7th Street SW, with Pastor Marcel Mitchell officiating.  A lunch will be served at the church following the service. For those wishing to honor Frank and Ruth, donations may be made in their memory to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 606 – 7th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4K8. 2. Sharon Schock says:

Oh my, what sad news. I met your Mom when I had taken painting at the Viener center a few years back. She was such a pleasant person. Always a smile. I remember my first year at the class when Christmas came I received a Christmas card from your Mom. I thought that was so special that she would send me a card since I had just met her a few months earlier. Not many people send cards anymore, especially to someone they hardly knew. It may seem trivial to some, but it confirmed to me her kindness and thoughtfulness towards others. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. My heart goes out to all of you. Keeping you in my heart and prayers at this extremely difficult time.
    Sharon Schock
