MELVIN HARVEY WENZEL

1928 – 2012
Beloved husband of Evelyn Wenzel of Consul, Sask., passed away Thurs., Nov. 8, 2012 at the age of 84 on the family farm.
Melvin leaves to cherish five children: Eugene (Lois) of Saskatoon, Karen of Maple Creek, Kathy (Joe) of Kuna, Idaho, Keith (Maggie) of Consul and Kelly (Linda) of Maple Creek. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Tyler, Carey, Dwight, Bryant, Cassandra, Kimberly, Devon, Bryton, Christian, Shae-Lyn and Rori; and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his sister Lila.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Leona, brother Kenneth, sisters Della, Darleen and infant son Phillip.
Melvin was born in Maple Creek on September 26, 1928. He attended school at Oxarat Consul.
In 1953, Melvin went logging in Campbell River, B.C. for a short time, then returned to the family farm to help his dad farming.
In 1958 Melvin met his soulmate Evelyn. Melvin and Evelyn were married December 27, 1962. Over the years Melvin served on many boards and committees such as Elks, Consul Hall Board, reeve of RM of Reno.
Melvin loved his family and friends. He always loved to share a cup of coffee and talk about farming. Melvin farmed along with his father until Harvey and Leona moved to Maple Creek in 1971.
Melvin had a love for animals; he enjoyed raising pigs and cattle. His boys helped him over the years, and have many fond memories. He and his son Keith farmed together until his passing.
Melvin was a loving and caring Grandpa, he loved them all very much. Some of their fondest memories are going for a ride on the three-wheeler, tinkering in the shop, rides on the tractors, combines, grain trucks and his big bear hugs.
Melvin was a very gentle caring man, who would always go out of his way to help anyone. He will be dearly missed and cherished forever.
The funeral service was held in the Consul Community Hall on Thurs., Nov. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dave Manley officiating. Interment followed in the Consul Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Cassandra Harns, Rori Wenzel, Dwight Wenzel, Bryton Wenzel, Carey Hodgson, Kimberly Maser, Devon Wenzel, Bryant Wenzel, Tyler Hodgson, Shae-Lyn Wenzel, Christian Wenzel. Honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Melvin’s life.
