1932 ~ SCHAUFELE ~ 2012

Elroy Wallace Schaufele passed away in Medicine Hat on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 at the age of 80 years. He was born on April 20th, 1932 in Medicine Hat where he lived and raised his family. Elroy was the beloved husband of 44 years to the late Glenda Schaufele; father of Tanis Petersen, Deborah Schaufele, and Thomas Schaufele; stepfather of Tracy (George) Oraas, Shelly-Ann (Jason) DeJong; and grandfather of six, Brent and Brandon Schaufele, Tanner Petersen, Giles, Easton, and Cale DeJong. Elroy also leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Martha Kerik; two brothers, Howard (Irene) and Ken (Betty); as well as a large extended family. Elroy was predeceased by his parents, John and Lydia Schaufele; two sisters, Emma Baker and Agnes Lindemann; and five brothers, Ted, Edwin, Henry, Clarence and Clifford. Elroy was employed for 34 years by Canada Post and became Assistant Post Master retiring in 1985. For the next 15 years he worked part time with Meyers Norris Penny. Elroy loved his backyard BBQ’s and get togethers with family and friends. He was a sports enthusiast enjoying all sports and was also an avid fan of the Medicine Hat Tigers. He was a skilled athlete excelling in bowling, darts, curling, billiards, and golf. He played semi-pro baseball for a number of years and senior slow pitch for 18 years. “Schife” was a life member of the Elks, a member of the Moose, and a 50+ year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. To celebrate Elroy’s Life, an informal come and go celebration will be held in ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, 702 – 2nd Street SE, on Saturday, December 8th, 2012 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in Elroy’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 – 1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8, or to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6.
