HOLLINGSWORTH

Finny Hollingstworth, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away in the Bow Island Health Centre on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 92 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Lyle on August 26, 1997. She was a devoted mother to her children, Bob (Judy), Ron (Sue), Karen (Howard) Long and Lyle Jr. (Debbie); eleven grand children and twenty two great grandchildren. Finny was born in Appelscha, Netherlands on March 15, 1920 to Hendrika and Ferdinand Smit. She became a psychiatric nurse and worked at a hospital in Winschoten, Holland. She fell in love with a Canadian soldier during the Second World War, marrying Lyle Hollingsworth on Christmas Eve after the war ended in 1945. She then made the two week journey on the boat with other war brides to begin her new life in Canada. Finny enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at Christmas time. She loved to travel to BC as it reminded her of home. She was an active member of the Bow Island Golden Age Club and participated in all the activities. She won many awards for bowling and other senior activities. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in St. Andrew’s United Church, Bow Island on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Bow Island Health Centre, 938 Centre St. Bow Island, T0K 0G0.
