Larry Jacob Schnell of Burstall, Saskatchewan, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the age of 69 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his partner, Janelle Thomas; two sons, Noel (Penita) Schnell of Medicine Hat and Kelly Schnell of Fox Creek, Alberta; one stepson, Orin (Candace) Thomas of Vernon, B.C; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica, Karli, Hannah, Halley, Abagail and Ryleigh; his mother, Mary Schnell of Medicine Hat; one brother, Glen (Victoria) Schnell of Medicine Hat and Rita (Dave) Wingenbach of Leader as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Sharyn on March 9, 1997 and his father John Schnell. Larry was born in Leader, Saskatchewan, and attended Richfield School. As a young boy he rode his horse Scotty to school which was a mile and a quarter southwest from his farm. He attended school until age 15 when he started working. He married Sharyn Unick on October 29, 1966 and together, they moved onto his mom and dad’s family homestead where his grandfather farmed before him. There was nowhere else in the world he wanted to be, and he resided there until his passing. He worked at various things off the farm but loved being a farmer the most…. that is, except his chesterfield. In his earlier years, he liked skidooing, chasing rabbits, and cruising in his 1956 Chevy car. Over the years, he ran backhoe, hauled water, ploughed snow, and raised pigs. His beloved wife Sharyn became ill and died in the spring of 1997. In the fall, he met Janelle Thomas as a hired hand at harvest time. She enjoyed prairie country life and remained by his side until his passing. He will be remembered for his big heart and willingness to always help a neighbour in need. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the Pattison Funeral Home on Friday from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, January 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Dear Janelle and the entire Schnell family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of such a sweet soul. Larry and Janelle would come for coffee almost every weekday EARLY morning at the Gas Station in Burstall and get in on the laughter and good times around the coffee table. When Janelle was out of town Larry was sure to come down for some homemade chicken or knepfla soup and homemade white bread. Just a few of his favorites 🙂
He will be greatly missed by all. Much strength and love to you at this time and in the coming days ahead. I am so thankful i got to see him the night before.

    Take care of EACH OTHER!!!

    Deborah
