William Philip “Phil” Martin of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the age of 91 years. He leaves to cherish his memory three nieces, Shirley Rosin, Joy Rosin and Joyce (Dale) Rotenberger; three nephews, James (Ann) Rosin, Rex (Noreen) Martin and Greg (Bonnie) Martin; his friend and caregiver, Jean Schock as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Elsie and Martin Martin; his sister, Anna Rosin and brother, James Martin. Philip was born on February 9, 1921 in Craigmyle, Alberta where he received his education, graduating in 1936. He stayed on the farm helping his Dad and working at odd jobs until he could join the army. He was very proud to be a Veteran and to have served his country overseas. When he returned he worked at various jobs but his heart was always in ranching. He worked at several ranches across Alberta and Saskatchewan and was a range rider in the Cypress Hills. Later, he settled in Irvine where he bought a home and raised a wonderful garden that he shared with the whole neighborhood. In 2007 health problems caused him to moved to the Cypress View Foundation where he enjoyed all his new friends, playing cards and crib. He will be remembered for his kind and generous ways, always ready to lend a helping hand and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A memorial service will be held at the Meadowlark Village Clubhouse (1600 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, 665 Spruce Way SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4L4.
