Mr. Wallace “Wally” Betker of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Gladys Betker, passed away on Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Wally leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Glendora Beaver of Medicine Hat; one sister, Betty (Lawrence) Wiebe; two nieces and four nephews. Besides his wife, Gladys; Wally was predeceased by his parents, Gottlob (Rosie) Betker; his step-father, Bert Evers; one brother, Wilbert Betker; and one sister and her husband, Gloria (Herb) Johnson. Wally was born on May 16th, 1926 at Walsh and received his education at Graburn School in Cypress Hills. He married Gladys Odenback on August 15th, 1953 in Medicine Hat. Wally was employed with Medicine Hat School Division #76 as a supervisor for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1988. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church having held several positions on various church boards. Wally enjoyed fishing, golfing, and gardening. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH, 606 – 7th Street SW, Medicine Hat, on Tuesday, January 15th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bob Findley and Pastor Brian Munro co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Wally’s memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, 124, 430 – 6th Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.
