Kenneth Wayne Forbes passed away January 13, 2013 at the age of 69 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Ken passed the way he lived his life, “on his own terms.”
He was born October 11, 1943 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Ken was raised and lived in the Kincorth, Maple Creek and Piapot areas. He married his life-time partner, Norma Peters on November 19, 1966. They lived on the ranch south of Piapot. Ken took great pride in being a father, father-in-law and a grandfather and had a special relationship with all of them.
Ken loved ranching, raising cattle, riding horses and training dogs. He always enjoyed brewing a pot of coffee and visiting with whoever would stop at the ranch.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Norma, mother-in-law Ida Peters, three sons Wade (Marlene), Darryl (Lori) and Colin (and friend Raylene); six grandchildren Lance, Blake, Eric, Layne, Hannah and Tyson; brothers and sisters Harry (Norma) Forbes, Agnes Oddon, Elsie Oddon, Helen Hoszouski, David Forbes, Elmer Forbes, Leonard (Marci) Forbes, Ralph (Marilyn) Forbes and Betty Hok. Brothers and sisters-in-law Scott (Betty) Peters, Grant Peters, Lorraine (Gary) Bertram, Naydene Rudd and friend Terry, Kerrie (Curtis) Chabot, Kristine (Darvin) Mason and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Bertha, sister Ella and father-in-law Herb Peters.
A large gathering of family, friends and community attended Ken’s funeral which was held at the Maple Creek Armoury on Sat., Jan. 19, 2013. Special music was provided by Lori Forbes and Sheldon Frank. Poems were read by Layne, Eric and Tyson Forbes. Eulogy was read by Rena Ehret. Scripture reading was given by Darryl and Hannah Forbes. Active pallbearers  were Eric Forbes, Layne Forbes, Tyson Forbes, Lance Forbes, Blake Forbes, Hannah Forbes.
Friends who wish to, may remember Ken with a gift to the Southwest Health Care Trust Equipment Fund at any Credit Union in Southwest Sask.
Ken would take great comfort in knowing all the support that has been given and offered to his family.
Forever a rancher, Ken’s ashes will be spread at the ranch at a later date.

  3. Beth King says:

I grew up on a neighbouring farm in the Piapot area, my father is Evans McDowell, I remember the Forbes family as very kind people, Ken was a fun loving hard working man to my recollection, he was a few years older, the same age as one of my brothers, so I did not get to know him at Petain school, I am sure the hills will miss him. My condolences to you and your family.
