SCHATZ

Posted: February 11th, 2013

Stephen James Schatz, beloved husband of Kathy Schatz, suddenly passed away on February 5, 2013 at the age of 53.
He was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on December 9, 1959.  He married Kathy in September 27, 1980 and together they took over his parents’ farm in Hilda, AB. They lived and worked there until 2008, when he fulfilled his long time dream of ranching in the bush when they moved to Burns Lake, B.C.
He loved hunting and fishing with his buddies, and dropping by unannounced for a cup of coffee and to shoot the breeze. Fondly nicknamed the “Gentle Giant” by his family, he was a big bear of a man who had a big heart. He loved his horses and mules, playing with his grandsons, and most of all, he loved Jesus.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 32 years, Kathy; his daughters, Stephanie Schatz, and Jayme Duncan (Brandon Duncan) and his grandsons, Joshua and Levi Duncan.  He also leaves behind his mother, Dorothy Schatz; his sisters, Ruth Schatz (Don Powers) and Florence Gackle (Richard); his brother, Richard Schatz (Cheryl); his mother-in-law, Kathleen Rempel; brother-in-law, Barry Rempel (Janice) and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Schatz, and father-in-law, John Rempel.
The memorial service will be held in Burns Lake at Island Gospel Fellowship on Monday, February 11 at 1:00pm, with Curtis MacLeod officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to PIONEERS for the Fukuoka Bible Church Building Project.
