1922 ~ STROMSMOE ~ 2013

Posted: February 12th, 2013

Wendell Byron Stromsmoe, known to many as “Moon”, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10th, 2013 at the age of 91.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rosalie; daughters, Katherine (Ron) King and Marcia (Les MacNeill) Stromsmoe; daughter-in-law, Maxine (Bruce Madsen) Stromsmoe; grandchildren, Shaunna (Russel) Muenchrath, Cherie (Quentin) Coe, Marnie (Shaun) Bailey, Michael Stromsmoe and Shane King; great grandchildren, Braden and Amber Muenchrath, Madisen Coe and Isabella Bailey; sister, Phyllis Hobbs; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Robin in 1980. Wendell was born in Pendant d’Oreille on February 8th, 1922, the youngest child of Olaf and Laura Stromsmoe. In 1926 the family moved to Etzikom where, apart from six years of service in Europe during WWII, Wendell spent the rest of his life in various occupations. He especially enjoyed his many years of raising quarter horses. He was an original “character” who marched to his own drummer and loved making people laugh. Wendell bequeathed his body to the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held in Etzikom later this year. Memorial gifts in Wendell’s memory may be made to the Bow Island Continuing Care Centre, Bag 3990, Bow Island, Alberta, T0K 0G0. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or www.gonebutnotforgotten.ca or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Wendell Stromsmoe. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORIUM, “The Chapel in the Park”, locally owned and directed.
