Ernstina “Tina” Schmidt of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the age of 94 years. Tina leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Harry Schmidt of Medicine Hat; three sisters, Helen Suttie of Calgary, Ida Young of Ottawa, ON, Jean (Harvey) Merritt of Victoria, BC; brother-in-law, Harvey Jespersen of Wetaskiwin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Helen Schmidt; sisters, Bertha Wuerfel, Hilda Carson, and Elsie Jespersen. Tina was born on September 10, 1918 at Eva, Alberta. After graduating from the Baptist Missionary School in Chicago, IL, Tina devoted her life to mission work, mostly in Cameroon, West Africa. Scaling 13,000 ft. high Mount Cameroon while she was in Africa was an accomplishment of which Tina was very proud. The funeral service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Bob Finley officiating. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Tina’s memory may be made to Alzheimer Society, The Hammond Bldg., 401D – 3rd St. S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 0G8. No greater cause for pride is there than accomplishing the words of 2timothy6:12…to fight the fine fight of the faith until the end..
