SCATTERTY, Charles John

January 10, 1931 – March 25, 2013 Charles John Scatterty, beloved husband of the late Helen Scatterty, of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 82 years.

Charlie was born in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, Scotland and raised in the Huntly area. He wanted a new adventure so he travelled to Canada in the early 1950’s and hitchhiked across the country. After returning to Scotland, he met Helen in Laurencekirk, they married and with their daughter Moira immigrated to Canada. They lived on various farms in Southern Alberta, and eventually settled in Airdrie where they would raise their three daughters. They lived at Willow Springs Ranch until 1967, and then moved to Maffei Farms where Charlie was Manager for twenty years. He also managed a farm in Fort St. John, BC for seven years. In 1996 they moved to Calgary to be closer to their family. Charlie had a wide variety of interests which included travelling, dancing and enjoying time spent with friends. Charlie’s greatest joy was his family. He was predeceased by Helen, his loving wife of forty-nine years. He will live forever in the hearts of his daughters, Eileen Scatterty, Moira Hoffert, and Linda Werner; his sons-in-law, Larry Hoffert and Gordon Werner; his four cherished grandchildren, Jason Hoffert, Sarah Werner, Jennifer Hoffert, and Steven Werner. Charlie is survived by his brother James Gerrard and was predeceased by his mother Annabella, sister Annabella and two brothers, Robert (Jock) and Leslie. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary) on Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North, Calgary) on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery in Calgary.
