Ann Eloise Volk passed away peacefully in Olds, Alberta on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the age of 81 years, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Frank, eight children, Les (Connie), Audrey Guagliano and Donna Edwards of Olds, Glen (Leslie) and Darin (Evelyn) of Calgary, Sandra Bixby of Medicine Hat, Dean (Delaine) and Darcy (Michelle) of Oyen, as well as fifteen grand children, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Miller in 2000, her father Andrew Miller in 1959, one son-in-law, Erroll Edwards in 2007, two brothers, Frank Miller in 2006 and Nelson Miller in 2007. Ann was born on October 26, 1931 in Leader, Saskatchewan and was raised nearby in Liebenthal. She married the love of her life, Frank Volk, on July 5, 1950 in Medicine Hat. In 1955 they moved to the Cappon area south of Oyen, to begin what still remains the family farm. As the family kept growing, milking cows, feeding chickens, tending the garden, driving the grain truck, cooking, mending and countless loads of laundry became the routine. Neighbours were always welcome and the odd bingo or card game as well as church on Sundays provided some reprieve from the hard life of a farm wife. Ann was not one to complain and she worked tirelessly for love of her husband and family. Finally in 1994, Frank and Ann decided maybe they should slow down a bit. They retired to a condo in Medicine Hat where they continued to be active in square dancing, playing cards at the “Moose” and generally enjoying their family and friends. It was a huge blow when Ann suffered a major stroke in July of 2004. She fought hard and made a miraculous comeback but eventually, due to declining health, Frank and Ann moved together to an Assisted Living Facility in Olds in 2010. Ann was a member of the C.W.L. for more than 50 years. Her life was centered on faith, family and friends. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. The funeral mass will be celebrated at ST PATRICKS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Medicine Hat (238-2nd AVE NE) on Wednesday, April 3, 2013at 10:30 a.m. with the very Reverend Fr. Long Vu celebrant. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME (540 South Railway St) on Tuesday from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. with prayers beginning at 7:00 pm. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT and Nunavut #124 – 430 6th Ave. SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2S8.
