Antoni “Tony” Zukowski passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the age of 80 years, beloved husband of Veronica Zukowski of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Richard (Kimberly) Zukowski of Medicine Hat and Edward (Dale) Zukowski of Calgary; five grandchildren, Jordan Zukowski, Colton Zukowski, Sierra Zukowski, Joel Zukowski and Eric Zukowski; his brother, Joe Zukowski of Calgary; two sisters, Lola Gawlinkski and Sophie Tietz both of Calgary; his brother-in-law, Zenon Jedruszewski of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jadwiga and Julian Zukowski and one brother, Victor Zukowski. Tony was born in 1932 in Juszkiewrcze, Poland just before the start of WW II. His entire family endured many hardships during this time and Tony worked as a forced labourer in Germany. At the end of the war they lived in the Refugee camps. The family immigrated to Canada in 1950, for a new start and a better life. Tony settled in Turin, Alberta with his parents and siblings and he worked in the sugar beet fields. Tony met Veronica in Lethbridge and they were married in 1955. Tony apprenticed to become a plumber. In 1958, he and Veronica moved to Medicine Hat and together they started Tony’s Plumbing, which later, along with partner John Hirsch became Height’s Plumbing. Tony and Veronica worked many long hours and the family business flourished. Dad could build, fix or accomplish anything. He was just as handy with a tool or with creating an art project. He loved spending time outdoors- camping, golfing, fishing, gardening and picking wild mushrooms. He would often entertain with his accordion and especially the harmonica. Tony had numerous friends, who along with his family enjoyed his ever present sense of humor, his positive attitude and his ability to always be there for anyone who needed anything. A true role model who will be sadly missed. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with The Very Reverend Father Long Vu celebrant. Thinking of you at this difficult time. I can’t help but wonder how difficult it must have been for your father and his family during the War. But they had a dream to come to Canada for a better life. Tony is a true story of success and his family is the proof of that.
