Posted: May 21st, 2013

Mike Schell of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the age of 85, he is the eldest son of the late Tom and Rose Schell. He was born near Krupp, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1927. Mike is now reunited in heaven with his wife Arlene who passed in 2004. Dad will be missed deeply by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Cory and Jackie of Richmound and Jody and Sherry of Dunmore and one daughter and son-in-law Kristi and Steve Chisholm of Saskatoon. There are six grandchildren who will treasure memories of their Grandpa, Jordan and Tara Schell and their children, Brooklyn and Brock, Jacey and Chris McLennon and their daughters Samara and Alexa, Kelsi Chisholm, Kady Chisholm and Adam Hamilton, Colton Schell and Wynter Schell. Dad was a kind, gentle and independent soul who built his farm from barren land, populated it with animals that were more akin to pets. Each day he took the time to hand feed the chickens, provide scraps to the cats and dogs, and nurse a wayward pigeon. He nurtured trees and planted grains and was always optimistic of a bountiful harvest. In this environment he raised a family, was a loyal friend, contributed to a community. Mike was a quiet man and found contentment in his own space. He was fortunate to find in his life his most complete existence. Mike was a farmer. Mike also leaves behind his two brothers, Frank (Katherine) and Gilbert (Debbie); one sister, Margaret Moser; one brother-in-law, Ron Neilson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased one sister, Mary Ann Neilson.
