Mr. John van Beveren of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Alida van Beveren, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, October 15th, 2013 at the age of 101 years. John leaves to cherish his memory five sons, Martin (Linda) Van Beveren of Westbank, British Columbia, John (Bev) Van Beveren and Peter (Brenda) van Beveren, both of Medicine Hat, Arnold (Sandy) Van Beveren of Redcliff and Henry van Beveren of Medicine Hat; one sister, Adriana “Jean” Vandenberg; eight grandchildren, Russ (Densie) Van Beveren, Shelley (Tim) Moody, Yvette Hoffner, Nadine Hoffner (Steve Wilson), Steven (Mary) van Beveren, Jennifer (Cory) Both, Brian Petersen and Michelle Van Beveren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one brother-in-law, Arnold (Dora) van Maanen of Holland; as well as numerous extended family, nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland. John was predeceased by his wife, Alida; his parents, Martinus and Pieternella van Beveren; one brother, Pieter van Beveren; and three sisters, Elizabeth “Bette” Wielaard, Lena DeGraaf and Pieternella Moerland. John was born on May 30th, 1912 in Stavenisse, Holland. He married Alida van Maanen on May 26th, 1944 in Arnhem, Holland. John, Alida and their three oldest boys immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax on April 1st, 1953. The family moved to Lethbridge for a short period of time before settling in Medicine Hat. John worked for IXL Industries from 1955 until his retirement in 1977. Shortly after Alida’s passing in 2000, John moved into the Park Meadows condominiums, where he remained until 2011 when he moved to the Good Samaritan Society. John was a devoted family man, he loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. He will be remembered for his quiet strength and independent nature. Words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude that we feel for having him in our lives. He was one of a kind and will forever be in our hearts. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Sunday, October 20th, 2013 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 21st, 2013 from 12:30 until 1:25 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, on Monday, October 21st, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in John’s memory may be made to the Good Samaritan Society, 550 Spruce Way SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1B 4P1.     So sad to hear of Mr VanBeverans passing. I have worked with his son Henry for 30 years with CORE and knew the family well. Mr. VanBeveran was the sweetest man and I feel very blessed that I got to know him. He will be missed by all.
