It is with sadness that the family of Arthur William “Bill” Crawford announce his passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, with his loving wife and best friend Thelma at his side, on Thursday, December 12, 2013.  Bill is survived by his son, Rory (Sheri) Crawford of Medicine Hat; daughter, Penny Crawford-Ritz (Scott Bergdahl) of Red Deer; step-children, Linda (Dave) Sebastian of Lethbridge, Jack (Michelle) Ward of Medicine Hat and Steve Ward (Ferida Balic) of Strathmore.  Bill was proud to be “Papa” to eight grandchildren, Angie Aben, Justin Crawford, Matt & Clay Ward, Dakota & Sienna Ritz, Josh & Emily Ward;  two  step-grandchildren, James & Jeri-lyn MacKenzie, and eight great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother and sister, as well as many extended family members.  Bill was predeceased by his parents, Leonard & Vera Crawford;  step-son, Brad Ward and a dear brother-in-law.  He was born on December 20, 1938, in Medicine Hat, and spent his entire life here graduating from MHHS in 1956.  Bill was well known for working in the automotive service industry for 43 years, being employed by Central Motors, Reidy Ford and Huttons before starting his own business, Gas City Auto Electric in 1985 and retiring in 1997.  Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service to honour Bill’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating.  Columbarium placement will follow at Prairie View Cemetery.  The family wishes to express their appreciation to the professional and caring staffs at the MHRH Cancer Centre, the Palliative Care Unit and expecially the “angels” at the Carmel Hospice where Bill spent his last week.  Memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made directly to St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, 156 – 3rd Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)  Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W.
