LINDA WURFEL 1917 ~ 2013

Linda Wurfel, beloved wife of the late Ernest Wurfel, passed away in Medicine Hat on Friday, December 13, 2013, at the age of 96.

Linda is survived by her son, Albert (Agnes) of Athabasca; daughter, Ardis Tingley (Dave) of Medicine Hat; daughter-in-law, Beth of Calgary; sister, Lorene Chacalias of Medicine Hat; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Linda was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; son, Gordon; grandson, Curtis; step-grandson, Erik Vatanen; parents, Karl and Adele Roth; brothers, Herbert, Arnold, Richard and Walter Roth.  Linda was born in Mendham, SK on April 8, 1917, and was raised on the family farm.  She attended a one-room country school and then helped on the family farm until her marriage to Ernest Wurfel in 1937.  During her marriage of 73 years, she made her home in Sandy Point, AB, Burstall, SK, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Hilda, Brooks, One Four, AB, Lethbridge relocating to Medicine Hat after the death of her husband.  She always adjusted to the change and made a good home for her family.  She weathered many storms during her lifetime and accepted the loss of her sight without complaint.  Linda enjoyed sewing, liquid embroidery and gardening, which she did well into her 90’s.  While in One Four she worked as a postmistress and after retirement to Lethbridge assisted, her husband in the management of two apartment blocks.  It was during this time they discovered the joy of taking holidays and did some travelling.  Linda was a good daughter, and a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.  Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th St. S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Interment and a Graveside Service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, Scenic Dr. and 11th St. S., in Lethbridge, AB. on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.  A Memorial Service will be held at a later date,  May 3, 2014, at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Medicine Hat, with further details to be announced.  Thank you to the staff at The Valleyview, Dr. Best and the staff at 5 West, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.  Memorial gifts in Linda’s memory may be made to the Canadian Institute for the Blind, 102, 520 – 2nd Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0C6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102, 73 – 7th Street, S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2.  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)   Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta  T1A 4V4   Phone:  403-527-6455.
