July 21, 1935 ~ January 25, 2014
Robert John Naismith passed away after a brief battle with cancer at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat, on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the age of 78 years. Bob to everyone who knew him, arrived in the world on July 21, 1935, in Medicine Hat just minutes apart from his twin, David. He was a life-long resident of Medicine Hat, except for a few years living in Seven Persons where among many contributions to the community, he was a member of the volunteer fire department and where he still has many friends. Bob played guitar and loved to ‘jam’ at frequent musical sessions with his beloved cousin, Ruth Mosher of Medicine Hat. He was employed at Northwest Nitro chemical plant for 30 years before his retirement, after which he worked at Hill Home Hardware where many customers and staff remember him fondly. Bob was predeceased by his brother, David, of Kamloops, BC; sister, Helen Elizabeth Wittig, of Red Deer; parents, Hugh and Mary Jane Naismith of Medicine Hat, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his cousin and devoted friend, Ruth Mosher; brothers, Archie (Rene) of Edmonton, Neil (Yvonne) of Winnipeg; niece, Leslie of Vancouver; nephew, Steve of Kamloops; brother-in-law, Lyle Wittig; niece, Wynn (Roger) and nephew, Paul (Jackie) all of Red Deer; nephew, Scott (Erin) and grandnephew, Liam of Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Everyone is asked to remember him in your hearts. His family is forever indebted to the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice for the extraordinary care and attention provided to him during his stay there. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of Bob may be made directly to St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, 156 – 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.
