Marguerite Grace Silliphant of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Norman Silliphant, passed away on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Marguerite leaves to cherish her memory five children, Glenn (Karen) of Saskatoon, Brian (Sandy) of Medicine Hat, Wenda (Alf) Breitkreutz of Bowser, BC, Sandra (Lloyd) Petrick of Medicine Hat, and Lyle of Medicine Hat; twelve grandchildren, Craig (Jenny), Sarah (Troy), Shonn (Kim), Chad, Shane (Amber), Devin, Ryan (Jenn), Clayton (Tara), Cody, Dylan, Blake, and Landon; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Bert (Ethel) of Abbotsford, BC: one sister, Audrey Broughton of Gibson, BC; two sisters-in-law, Erma (Alf) Shaw and Orma Lamb; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Norman in 2007; her parents, Berton and Grace Broughton; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Jim Lamb and Don (Hazel) Silliphant. Marguerite was born on September 3rd, 1928 in Peace River where she lived for fourteen years before settling in Medicine Hat in 1943. She graduated from Alexandra High School. After the war, Marguerite met Norman and they were married on May 31st, 1948 in Medicine Hat. They lived for a time in Ralston but Medicine Hat had always been home. Marguerite was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church for many years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time with her family and always had cookies and rice krispie squares for her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Care Centre for their excellent care of our mother over the past three years. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, May 30th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. A Private Interment will take place in the Family Plot at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Marguerite’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #102, 73 – 7th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2, or to the Riverview Care Centre Family Council, 603 Prospect Drive SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4C2.
