1923 ~ 2014
Joyce Lilian Bernice Ody passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 22, 2014, just one week before her 91st birthday.  She was born July 1, 1923 in Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom, a daughter to Alfred Chambers and Annie Wiltshire.  Joyce married William Ody during WWII and they were blessed with three children.  In 1967 they immigrated to Canada first settling in Lacombe, Alberta and later moving to Medicine Hat in 1969.  We will all remember Joyce for knitting, especially Christmas socks and her needlework.  Her walls were covered with colourful, textured works of art, made through many countless hours of needle and thread work.  Joyce was very proud of the fact that she was able to remain in her home as long as she could despite her failing health,  thanks to the love and support of her many friends, neighbours, Home Care Services staff and Dr. Bratvold.  Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elisabeth Thornback of Reading, UK, her son, John (Evelyn) Ody of Calgary;  nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren;  one sister, Betty White of Sydney, Australia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, William in 1986 and a son, Michael in 1991.    A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held in the Cook Southland Reception Center, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.    Memorial donations in Joyce’s name may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 Crestwood Square One, 1865 Dunmore Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8 or donate online by visiting www.cancer.ca  (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com)  Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W.
