Norman Christopher Hamel, beloved husband of Pearl Hamel of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Norman also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Duaine Hamel, Denice (Shane Morgan) Hamel, and Dawn Hamel; three step-daughters, Debbie Ramsay, Brenda-Lee (Darren) Dahlseid, and Lisa (Dale) Phillips; three grandchildren, Joshua Hamel, Michael and Brianna Morgan; five step grandchildren, Jasmine and Rebecca Dahlseid, Kiah Hirsch, Brett and Braeden Phillips; two brothers, Ray Hamel and George (Sandra) Hamel; one sister, Rose Moser; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by his parents, Alphonse and Florentina Hamel; one sister, Elsie May; and one brother-in-law, George Moser. Norman grew up in Leader, Saskatchewan and had lived in Medicine Hat for 50 years. He married Pearl Tucker in Medicine Hat on July 15th, 1983 after winning his battle with cancer. Norman worked as a dog catcher, at Kirk\’s Iron Works, and at Alberta Linseed Oil as well as at the Canadian Forces Base in Suffield from which he retired after 11 years. He enjoyed curling and playing shuffleboard. Norman will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at ST. BARNABAS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 635 – 4th Street SE, on Saturday, October 11th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Canon D. Gene Packwood officiating. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Norman\’s memory may be made to the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6, or to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2.     My prayers and thoughts go out to you at this difficult time. Ray and I use to own Humpty’s Family Restauraunt and you cam in as reqular customers and we got to know you well. Take care and may God comfort you in your hour of need.

    Pearl, I was so sorry to hear of Norman’s passing. My Mom never forgot the kindness both you and Norman showed her by ferrying her back and forth to church on Sundays. She cherished your friendship. I know Norman will be missed. God bless you.
