CARLSON

Norman “Stacey” Carlson passed away on Tuesday June 2nd, at the age of 48 years, with his family by his side. After a short, but hard fought battle with cancer Stacey finally lost his battle with the disease in Calgary, Alberta in the Chinook Care Centre. Stacey is survived by his father Norman Carlson, sister Tania (Willy) Thompson, his very special niece and nephew Kacy and Jared Thompson; two sons, Luke and Colby and their mother, Valerie and his furry companion Keyko. Stacey was predeceased by his mother Lois on April 1st, 2012, as well as many other family members. Stacey was born on March 17th, 1967. He spent his life growing up in Medicine Hat and was still a resident at the time of his passing. Stacey was involved in many activities throughout his childhood. He played baseball for a few years but found his passion once he learned the game of hockey. His proudest moment was being the captain of his Bantam hockey team in 1982, coached by his Dad and Leroy Hammel, and winning the city championship. A family trip to Disneyland in 1982, with his extended Carlson family and special cousin Lyle Magnuson, was a very special memory that Stacey still spoke of often especially the NHL hockey game in Anaheim where the Edmonton Oilers played the Los Angeles Kings. In the last couple of years his travels to Las Vegas, with his special friend Rick Schmaltz and family, were all he would talk about. On his most recent trip in December, 2014, although not feeling all too well, he made the best of it enjoying the NFR for the first time. Stacey was also an avid camper/outdoorsman spending the majority of his summers fishing at Lake MacGregor and attending Thunder in the Valley with Aaron and Natalie Winter and family. Stacey’s strong work ethic started at the young age of 10 years old helping with the property maintenance of the numerous buildings his Dad and two uncles, Carl and Earl Carlson owned. This ethic continued with his employment at Turbo Gas, Medicine Hat Stampede, Medicine Hat Airport, Rocky Mountain Equipment, and finally Hat Truck Repair. The passion Stacey had for his job at Hat Truck Repair was one to be admired. Not only was it his work place, it was the place where he could go and have good times and laughs with his co-workers and customers. Stacey was known to most as the social butterfly and was always the preferred dance partner for any two step. He lit up dance floors, garages and campfires with his contagious smile and laughter. During his last months of life, Stacey was supported by his sister and her family, extended family and friends. He endured tremendous and constant pain but always kept a positive attitude with a smile on his face. He was very grateful for the love and support he received in his sister’s home and the care that they provided him. Stacey had a special place in the heart of many and will be greatly missed by all. Until we meet again……The Funeral Service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL (Medicine Hat) on Saturday, June 6th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in the Prairieview Cemetery.
