Catherine, a lifelong resident of the Leader area passed away Wednesday, June 10th, at the Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader, Saskatchewan, at the age of 93.

She was born February 4, 1922 to Jacob and Brigetta Kambeitz Wist, pioneer settlers in the Liebenthal area. Catherine attended Frohlich School, a 2.5 mile walk from their home. Catherine married Jack Geiger on May 24, 1944 and enjoyed 61 years of married life together.

Catherine’s four most important aspects of her life were:

FAITH: It was her anchor in her life. Her life revolved around her church.

FAMILY: was what she loved, lived, and sacrificed for

FRIEND: Lifelong friends who enjoyed serious card playing, visiting, travelling together

FOOD: An excellent cook who could provide a meal for anyone, at anytime

In her own words she wrote “It was a hard life, with good times and bad, but all the wages of life were paid in full.”

Catherine is predeceased by her husband Jack Geiger, her parents Jacob and Brigetta Wist, her siblings and in-laws. Leon (Maggie) Wist, Agatha (Mike Thares), Joseph (Anna) Wist, Dan (Angela) Wist, Mary Wist, Roy (Lena)Wist, Paul Wist, Ben Wickenheiser, Adam Geiger, George Wist, Florian Rollheiser, her daughter Angela Farrer, son-in-law Gerald Churchill, and grandson Mario Pisoni.

Catherine leaves to mourn her passing her children Antoinette Churchill, Jim (Doreen) Geiger, Harvey (Anne) Geiger, Jere (RoseMarie Sackela) Geiger, Tim (Carmen Gill) Geiger, Terry Farrer, her sisters Marge Wickenheiser, Rose Geiger, Lucy Rollheiser, and sisters-in-law Tillie Wist, Mary Geiger. Catherine is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Mom and Dad lived and farmed in the Liebenthal area from 1945 until 1978 at which time they moved to Leader. Here they became very active members of their church and Friendship Centre. They had a wonderful retirement with new friends and acquaintances with many old friends not very far away.

After Dad’s passing in 2005, Mom slowly slipped into dementia. She moved into St. Joseph’s Home in Medicine Hat for about a year then transferred to Western Senior Citizens Home in Leader for 8 years until her passing.

Catherine’s Funeral Service will be held at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Leader, SK on June 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nestor Gregoire and Deacon Bob Williston officiating.
