1935 ~ 2015

Rachel Wirsch, beloved wife of the late Roy Wirsch, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the age of 80 years. Rachel was born on the family homestead near Thelma area (south of Elkwater) on April 13, 1935. She married Roy Wirsch on July 7, 1956, and enjoyed their new life together working alongside each other on their farm. She enjoyed the rustic outdoors as a farmer’s wife and found herself working in the cattle pens at the Medicine Hat Feeding Company. Rachel was a talented lady who was very artistic and enjoyed painting and drawing animals, wildlife and horses. She loved the cowboy life and often painted landscapes in representation of this. She was always mindful of others, never missing anniversaries or birthdays and made her own cards for such occasions. She enjoyed bowling for many years but her heart was always in the country, going to brandings and cooking for crowds. She would also get down on the floor with children to interact with them and play rodeo. Rachel is survived by two brothers and two sisters as well as some very dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy on February 9, 2009; her parents and one brother. Having Rachel as a friend was truly a blessing. She will forever leave a mark on our hearts. In honour of Rachel’s life and in accordance to her wish, a Private Graveside Service was held at Hillside Cemetery yesterday, Friday, July 17, 2015 with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
