July 10, 1924 ~ August 24, 2015

Matilda Schuler passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the age of 91 years. Left to cherish Matilda’s memory are two brothers, Sam and Ruddy Schuler as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Christian and Christina Schuler; two sisters, Frida Schuler and Mary Brusky as well as eight brothers, William, Albert, Benjamin, Emanuel, Gustave, Walter, Samuel and Adam. Matilda was born in Burstall, SK. on July 10, 1924. This is where she grew-up and took on the responsibility of helping raise her younger siblings in their family of thirteen children. As a young adult, Matilda moved to Medicine Hat, her home for the last 60 plus years. She had a strong faith in God and made every effort to attend the weekly services at St. Paul Lutheran Church. For a number of years, Matilda was very active with REDI, making many good friends there. She was very crafty, especially when it came to crocheting and knitting. Matilda maintained an active lifestyle during her years at Meadowlands. Whether shopping (she loved shopping for jewelry), reading, doing puzzles, word searches, playing cards or bingo, she did it with a smile. She was very sociable and often shared her contagious laugh while enjoying holiday family dinners. Her giving and thoughtful nature will live on in the hearts of all those who were privileged enough to be a part of her remarkable life! A Celebration of Matilda’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, August 28, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Prairie View Cemetery with a time of fellowship thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.
