Metheral
1926-2015

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luella Metheral at the Bow Island Hospital on August 28, 2015 at the age of 89 years from complications resulting from a stroke. Luella was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Jack in 2004. Jack and Luella were true soul mates and rarely spent a night apart. Luella was the loving mother of Judy (Lynn) Edge of Cochrane, Clark (Doreen) Metheral of Foremost and Craig (Adele) Metheral of Schuler; 9 grandchildren: Robyn (Dean) Bilsky, Roz (Gary) Kossowan, Cody (Juliane) Metheral, Amy (Brett) Hirsche, Lindsay (Eric) Verhaeghe, Jay (Kristy) Metheral, Jordy (Megan) Metheral, Casey (Jennifer) Metheral, Trish (Josh) Helman; and 15 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way. She is also survived by sisters Gladys Dougan (Lethbridge), Lois Strome (Ft St.John), brother and sister-in-law Robert & Marian Bye (Calgary), sister-in-law Pat Geldreich (Bow Island) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Luella was the oldest daughter of Bill and Irene Bye, and was born on the Dittbenner Farm in the Milk River area on January 13, 1926. Luella went to school at Kippenville and Masinasin, and later worked as an AGT telephone operator in Milk River. Luella met her husband Jack at a rodeo in Aden, where Jack was bronc riding and they were married on June 28, 1948 in Lethbridge. After they were married they moved to their ranch in Foremost and she loved the ranch and the ranch way of life. Rodeo and horses were a major part of their family life. Jack enjoyed his cutting and Luella barrel raced in the Southern Alberta Circuit, where they both won several buckles and trophies. It was on their ranch that they raised their 3 children. Luella was a hard working ranch wife and mother who loved her craft sales, seasonal decorating of their home, shopping at the mall and she was particularly renown for her home cooked meals and her baking was enjoyed by all her family and friends. Luella lived on the ranch for 62 years before moving to the Pleasant View Lodge in Bow Island in 2011, due to an unfortunate fall that resulted in a broken arm and shoulder. Her room at the Pleasant View Lodge was tastefully decorated with western decor. Luella was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother and her family and friends will miss her now, always and forever. She truly loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. Each of her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were precious to her in their own way. She was a beautiful person inside and out, and asked for so little but gave so much.

A private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made in Luella’s name to The Foremost United Church (Box 336 Foremost T0K 0X0) or to the Pleasant View Lodge in Bow Island (Bag 6700 Bow Island, T0K 0G0).
