1916 ~ 2016

Hilma Ledene Striegler Bennett passed away in Medicine Hat. She was the beloved mother of Patricia, Gary, Leo (Lois) Ledene; grandmother of Daniel (Sheree), Shayne (Valerie) Bliss and Lindsey Ledene; great-grandmother of Laurie (Jamie) Waller and son Avery (Brittany) Shalena, Cassie, Chanelle (James) Scott. She is also survived by 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mom was born in the little Hamlet of Klitton in Alvdahlen, Sweden on November 1, 1916 to Olaf and Anna Festin. Mom came to Canada when she was 7 years old with her Aunt Hilma Forsen and never got back to Sweden. She had a good life with her Auntie as she was the only girl. They had a butcher shop in Southern Saskatchewan. She came to Alberta in response to an add by Grandma Ledene looking for a Swedish speaking housekeeper. There she met their son, Arthur Ledene (our Father) and married him in 1935. In 1963, she married Edward Striegler, a cowboy from Clinton sawmill, B.C. He predeceased her in 1989 and she married Geoffry Bennett in 1993. Mom was a very hard worker and did lots of baking, canning vegetables, fruit and meat. She also did lots of sewing for the ranchers and raised rabbits, chickens and siamese kittens. Mom was predeceased by her parents, her three siblings and two grandchildren, Dayne and Cindy Bliss as well as her two sons-in-law, Dempsey Bliss (1972) and Harry ‘Scotty’ Fraser (2004).
