Maria Flanagan, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre on Monday, May 16, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas (Bus) Joseph Flanagan. She is survived by her children, Tom (Vicki), Margaret (Robert Poetschke), Maureen (Imants Osis), Ann Marie (Ron Ziebart), Sharon, Jane (Michael Perman); seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great- grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Maria was predeceased by her twelve siblings. Born on a farm near Walsh, Maria lived most of her life in Medicine Hat where she and Bus, married for 53 years, raised their six children, enjoyed family, music, and many other gifts from God. She was educated in Maple Creek and continued her education through courses at Athabasca University and Medicine Hat College. For 60 years she was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. Maria was able to put anyone at ease with her warmth, beautiful smile, and kindness. She created beauty in everything she touched – her meals, floral arrangements, and homes. She saw the good in others and always treated people she met with dignity and grace. A true lady who will be deeply missed.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre for their compassionate care. The family is also very grateful for the kindness and support of Mom’s three companions: Linda, Eugenia, and Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre through the Gray House Guild.

A private family memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at South Side Memorial Chapel, 8310 – 104 Street, Edmonton, AB. At a future date a memorial service will be held in Medicine Hat.
