JOHN A RATAUSHK

June 24, 1921 – Jun 11, 2016 John Albert Rataushk passed away June 11, 2016 in Calgary, Alberta, just two weeks short of his 95th birthday. John was born on June 24, 1921 on a homestead in Sundre, Alberta, the son of Amelia (Amandine) and Christian Rataushk. As a teenager, he moved to Medicine Hat, where he was a high-school track and field champion. Marriage and fatherhood found him studying nights so that he could progress from driving a horse-drawn milk wagon for Crystal Dairy to become an accountant and then an auditor. He was a supremely devoted husband and an exceptional father, and he delighted in every moment spent with his grandchildren. John leaves his wife of 72 years Ruby (Faas) Rataushk of Calgary; son Ken Rataushk and his wife Jan (Wallens) of Calgary; son Wes Rataushk and his wife Sydne (Smith) Rataushk of Kirkland, Washington; his loving grandchildren Kimberly (Rataushk) Slater and her husband Jeff Slater, Kelsey Rataushk, Riley Rataushk, and Carly Rataushk; and his new great grandson Logan Slater. A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 3610 Sarcee Road SW, Calgary, Alberta on Friday June 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
