Paul Eugene Pelchat passed away on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 at the University Hospital in Edmonton at the age of 85 years. He was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan on November 29th, 1930. He is survived by his sister, Gay; his brother, Emile (Joyce) Pelchat; his brother-in-law, Peter Barth; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Aurore and Louis Pelchat; his brothers, Onil, Gerard and Herve Pelchat; his sisters, Jeannette Sereda, Cecile Bonneville, Theresa Johnson, Noella Hillerud and Lillian Barth. Paul graduated from St. Theresa Academy in Medicine Hat, took one year of teacher training, taught one year in the Tilly district, then served briefly in the RCAF. For several years he was employed at various jobs in Edmonton and the BC interior before enrolling in a horticulture program at the State University in Portland, Oregon. When health problems prevented him from completing his degree, he moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and took the first two years in Library Science, completing that degree in Austin, Texas while working part-time as a library assistant. He returned to Las Cruces State University to work in the library for a year before his return to Canada where he served in technical service for several years in the Mount Royal College Library in Calgary. Paul moved to Halifax where he was employed in the Dalhousie Medical Library where he became Chief Cataloguer before retiring to his small farm in New Germany, Nova Scotia. When he returned to Edmonton he became involved in the Community Garden Program and once again enjoyed his interest in and love of plants. We will miss him. A Private Service will be planned at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be e-mailed to condolences@saamis.com heading Paul Pelchat. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to
