Gotlieb Edwin “Gus” Nitz of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Irene Nitz, passed away on Saturday, October 15th, 2016 at the age of 83 years. He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Darlene (David) Tessman, Medicine Hat, Brenda (Bill) Rose of Vernon, British Columbia, Dean Nitz of Medicine Hat, Charlene (John) Grona of Strathmore, Mary (Steve) Seitz of Medicine Hat; ten granddaughters, Lynn (Jonas) Wells, Erin (Jason) Straarup, Michelle (Cameron) Dakin, Shauna Rose (Chris), Darnyll (Lance) Nitz-Jacober, Shareen Nitz (Justin), Christa Grona (Mike), Kayla Grona (Nathaniel), Lisa (Josh) Crawford and Stephanie Seitz (Sam); ten great grandchildren, Jonah, Kaylem, Ryler, Avery, Ashlyn, Austin, Aeon, Zaidin, and Ethan; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Annie (Harvey) Sackman, and Georgina (Morris) Stenger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Katherine Nitz; one daughter-in-law, Charlene Nitz: one brother, Frederick Nitz; one sister, Gertrude (Bill) Drefs; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Mike) Kobly; and mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Valentine Bischoff. Gus was a kind, loving father who loved to spend time with his family and friends. Gus worked hard and was an excellent provider for his family. He was an amazing crafts person and could do almost anything that he put his mind to. Gus was a great cook and loved canning. Music was an important aspect of Gus’s life and he learned to play instruments by ear. Gus will also be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes and love of telling jokes. Gus retired from his employment at the Saint Mary’s River Irrigation District at the age of 57. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Marino Infante, Celebrant.
