Posted: November 9th, 2016
March 4, 1928 – November 6, 2016
It is with sadness that the family of Cornelia ‘Corrie’ Boutkan, beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Boutkan, announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the age of 88 years. Corrie was born March 4, 1928 in Rotterdam, Holland a daughter to William and Jacoba Vandenberg. She grew up in Holland where she received her education and began training as a nurse. She found nursing very rewarding as she excelled in her chosen field working in Holland, Switzerland and later in Canada when she immigrated in 1958. She married William Boutkan on October 4, 1958 and their marriage was blessed with the births of four children, Jacoba, Richard, Martin and Jeannette. Corrie was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them and going for picnics or watching the grandkids playing in the park. She was a crafty lady who enjoyed knitting and through the years had made many pairs of slippers and mittens. Corrie loved to go for leisurely bike rides and liked to make music by playing the organ. She was always pleasant and fun to be with as she had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to laugh with those around her. Family was of most importance to her – she was genuinely caring, kind and selfless and these qualities will never be forgotten by her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Jacoba (Les) Kovacs of Nanaimo, B.C., Richard (Connie) Boutkan of Medicine Hat, Martin (Karen) Boutkan of Calgary and Jeannette Schneider (Ed Ten Hove and his children, Shae-Lynn and Jacob); grandchildren, Kris and Rick (great-grandson, Seth); Whitney and Ethan; Emily; Graham and Alex; sister, Jane (Laine) Bakelaar of Medicine Hat, brother, Henk (Ann) Vandenberg of Vernon, B.C. and brother-in-law, Casey (Ann) Boutkan of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Corrie was predeceased by her husband William ‘Bill’ in 2009. Those wishing to offer personal condolences may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Corrie’s life will be held at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. Private interment will be held prior to the service at Hillside Cemetery. To the whole Boutkan family, I send everyone my deepest sympathies. I will forever remember my childhood fun and games we all shared in the neighbourhood. I can still taste the first saltly licorice dutch candy your mom gave me, her sense of homour and her accent when she was scolding one of us. May you all find peace in the memories your mom touched us with over the years.
To the entire Boutkan family, we are very sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathies.
