1937 ~ BILL CRUICKSHANK ~ 2016

William Alistair “Bill” Cruickshank of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Bill leaves to cherish his memory his son, Darcy Cruickshank; his daughter, Anita Cruickshank; his step-daughter, Judy Keehn; two grandchildren, David (Lisa) Keehn and Aaron Keehn; one great-granddaughter, Malena Keehn; one brother, Donald (Barbara) Barry; his niece, Barb (Terry) Labbe; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Cruickshank; his parents, Alistair and Kathleen Cruickshank; and his brother-in-law, George Burns. Bill was born in Bissett, Manitoba, and moved to Winnipeg with his family at the age of five. They then moved to Trail, BC and later Vancouver. On April 1st, 1953, Bill joined the Canadian Army and was deployed to Egypt, Cypress, Germany, and Korea, serving with the The Royal Candian Army Service Corps, The Royal Canadian Navy, and the Air Force (RCAF). He retired to Medicine Hat and in 1991 moved to Calgary. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday, January 20th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. The officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Redcliff Branch #6, will conduct a Poppy Service for their departed comrade. Interment will take place in the Veteran’s Section at Redcliff Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Redcliff Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, #124, 430 – 6th Avenue SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2S8.
