1927 ~ KEITH BENNETT ~ 2017

With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Keith Leon Bennett at the age of 89 years on Friday, January 20th, 2017 with his loving family at his side. Keith was predeceased by his dear wife, Lillian on September 17th, 2015; they shared 65 years together. Keith leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Linda Keith, Carol (Jim) Hintz, Peggy Wester (Grant Thompson), and Calvin (Michele) Bennett; 14 grandchildren, Mark (Karina) Backer, Dean (Amanda) Ressler, Kristin (Warren) Senft, Jason Reeder (Carrie), Aaron Hintz, Carmen Hintz, Derek Hintz (Devon), Bradley Wester (Katie), Stephen Wester (Leslie), Kelly Wester (Larissa), Shane (Andrea) Bennett, Sharrese (Adam) Dovichak, Shaun Bennett, and Shayla Bennett (Joshua); four step-grandchildren, Brittney (Austin) LaBranche, Jared (Jennifer) Thompson, Delman Thompson, and Jenica Thompson; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Janice) Bennett; sister-in-law, Lori Bennett; brother-in-law, Donald Hunter (Joan Hogan); sister-in-law, Donna Hunter; as well as many special nieces and nephews. Keith was born in Magrath, AB on September 24th, 1927. Keith had a very adventurous spirit and when he was in Grade 11 he decided to head out on his own to explore the world, horses and cattle became his passion! He worked for many ranchers breaking horses, milking cows and moving cattle. He loved being on a horse and could name each and everyone of them. Eventually his career changed to being an agent buying grain for the Alberta Wheat Pool. The highlight of his younger years was when he met Lillian Hunter. They fell in love and were married on June 17th, 1950. During their early years of marriage, there was an opening for a position with the Medicine Hat City Police Department and Keith was hired. An amazing 34 years on the force, retiring as “Inspector Bennett”. His loving wife Lillian was always there to support his career. They spent many hardworking years together building their future and raising their children. Grandchildren arrived and life was perfect because the more they had, the more they loved. In 2012 Keith and Lillian decided to move to Chinook Village. After Lillian’s passing in 2015, Keith was diagnosed with ALS in March of 2016. With more care needed, he moved to Riverview Care Center where he lived out his last months. As a family, we are extremely proud to call this fantastic man Dad, Father-in-law, Grandpa (G-pa, Papa), Great Grandfather, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle and of course, Friend. A special thank you to the staff at Riverview Care Center and also to the ALS Society for all the loving care and support they gave to our dad! Dad, we will miss your smile, your hugs, your happy teasing, the chats we had, your support and unconditional love. We’re so happy you have been reunited with mom. We’re not saying good bye…….we’re just saying “until we’re together again”. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. A Reception will follow at Chinook Village, Terrace Room, 2801 – 13th Avenue SE, at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
