HAAGSMA, GERRY

Gerry Haagsma, late of Medicine Hat, passed away in Edmonton on May 8, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Born in Voorburg, the Netherlands, she immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her husband Gerrit (dec’d 2015), initially settling in Barrhead. The family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona for a couple of years in the mid-1960s, returning to Canada, and settling in Medicine Hat. Her passions were learning and languages. As a language teacher, she taught French and German in Medicine Hat College and Public schools. Gerry is survived by her children Joan Allison (Terry), Robert Haagsma (Belinda Hansen) and Marvin Haagsma (Jopy); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as several siblings in the Netherlands.

Memorial: 2:00 PM on Monday, 15 May 2017 at West End Christian Reformed Church, 10015 149 St NW, Edmonton, AB.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to CNIB, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of your choice.

    Dear Haagsma family,

    Praying for you all for much peace and comfort during this difficult time.
    We did not know your Mom very well, but feel extremely blessed to have met both your parents, and for them to sell our family your family home here in Medicine Hat. They have truly been a blessing in our lives.
