ELIZABETH “BETTY” STEIER

Elizabeth “Betty” Steier, beloved wife of the late Alexander Steier passed away on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 at the age of 87 years in St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Ron (Donna) Steier, Elaine Figley, Stan (Colette Hough) Steier & Darlene (Anthony) Wagner; Seven grandchildren, Sara (Curtis) Brown, Joe (Jenn) Steier, Bryce (Jenna Boser) Steier, Kelli Figley (Matthew Worton), Brady Figley (Valentyna Tetera), Tyson (Dominique) Wagner and Kaitlyn Wagner; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Ryann & Wyatt Steier, Evyn & Levi Brown, Max & Finn Wagner; two sisters, Anne (Ralph) Immel, Irene (Simon) Schmaltz and sister-in-law, Shirley Greenwald; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Alexander in 2002; her parents, John & Katherine Greenwald; twin sister, Rose and husband, Jack Stotz; Phyllis (infancy); Brothers, Ralph Greenwald and James (infancy); and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on the Steier side. Betty was born on the family farm in the RM of Clinworth near the Great Sandhills on Oct. 28th, 1930. She attended Earl Haig school and completed her Gr. 7; then she was needed to help on the farm and help her mom in the house. On Nov. 12th, 1951, she married Alexander Steier at St. John’s Church, Johnsborough, Sk. They lived on the Steier family farm located 4 miles east of Liebenthal. This is where they lived until they sold the farm in 1980. Their farm house was moved into Prelate, SK. and they lived there until spring, 2002. They then moved into Chinook Courts in Leader, SK. When Alex passed away Betty remained in Leader until her passing. Betty’s passion was her family, preparing some of their favourite foods when they visited. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, word search puzzles and entertaining. She was a valued volunteer at the Western Senior Citizen Home with her good friend, Eileen. Betty was a member of the CWL and the Ladies Auxiliary at the WSCH. Betty enjoyed her TV and loved her news, sports, (especially the Riders), church and the weather. She was always warning her family, “bad weather was coming.” One of her last days was a party day. All her children, spouses and grandchildren were with her in her room. There was music, laughter and pizza. The family has been overwhelmed by the many expressions they received regarding Betty’s kindness, her beautiful smile and her generosity to give everybody a hug. The Celebration of her Life will be on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Little Flower Catholic Church, 308 Main St. West, Leader, SK. with Father Joe Thazhathemuriyil officiating.
